| Quilters,
It's been a couple weeks since I've written. My goal is to do an email weekly, but our daughter was married on Saturday so life was a whirlwind for a time. It was a beautiful wedding and I still can't believe how fast it's all over with. The planning takes forever but then it's all over in just a few hours. It was a beautiful wedding and a wonderful day even with the heat. Lacey & Bart were married on my parents 51st wedding anniversary so makes it extra special.
Now, on to quilting details. It is time to get ready for our annual fall retreat at Lake Poinsett near Arlington, SD. This is a UFO (unfinished project) retreat, meaning we have no set "quilting project". Everyone brings their own projects and you work on the projects you already have. Or I do bring vending and you can purchase a kit and begin something new! I will also be doing a demo this time with a few new "techniques" that you might like to try. We begin(this is an option) on Thursday evening after work and go until Sunday afternoon. The retreat center is beautiful as it overlooks Lake Poinsett. Are meals are prepared right on sight, rooms are great, three to a room, each room has its own bathroom, all bedding and towels. Everyone has their own table to work on, there is a large room with a fireplace and leather furniture so you can sit and take a break from your quilting if desired. Need I say more?
We have spaces available, call your quilting friends and join us for a great quilting weekend. Oh, I almost forgot, we make a trip to a couple antique shops also. We would love for you to come join us!! The price for Friday thru Sunday is $235.00 with Thurs evening being a small additional charge. There is a $25.00 non-refundable deposit which goes towards the price due when you sign up to hold your space. I promise you will not be disappointed, how often can you just sit and quilt with others who love this hobby like you? Gift bags to everyone who attends. Call the shop to sign up soon. I'm already thinking of what I'm going to be working on!!
Now regarding what's going on in the shop. Many new samples are in the process of being made. Joan has been very busy while I've been off a few days for the wedding. I'm also getting ready to dye more wool for all the new wool projects. We will have some great new projects available using wool. A table topper with pumpkins, an advent calendar, and a Christmas tablemat. Also, some great new civil war wallhangings using the latest line "Simpler Tymes" they are so cute. Stop in and see.
Remember we are beginning a new hand applique group that will meet on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 1-3. Bring your hand applique` project and work on it with others. Please call to reserve your spot. We also have in the plans for a Saturday Morning Breakfast Club. This will meet one Saturday a month starting September 18th from 9-10:30. For $9.00 there will be a demo and see what is new in the shop and share in show and tell and get a nice breakfast. Preregistration is required with payment. We also continue the open sew Wednesdays every week, come join others and work on your own project all day. Starting Sept 3rd is our monthly Girls Night Out, starting around 5 until 10 pm $10 gets you pizza and dessert and a fun night with others working on your recent project. Pre registration is also required. Space is limited to each of these sessions. I'll be sending out an email next week with all the upcoming new classes.
Have a great week!

Summer Greetings,
Are you tired of the hot and humidity? I think everyone is, but it's the weather and we can't change it, right? I've been staying in and stitching! A great way to avoid the heat. I love summer and I think it just goes way too fast. I remember thinking summer was so long, but maybe those of us in the Midwest look so forward to summer and it just seems so short. The kids will be back in school in two weeks and in four short weeks we will have had our last official long weekend of the summer off. I never like summer to end, but I do love fall and the coolness of the nights.
We are busy preparing for our oldest daughter's wedding in two weeks. I'm making bags for all the bridesmaids this week and even some bows for the horses that will be pulling the wagon with the wedding party in it. I'm trying to figure out where that fits into quilting? We're just hoping for a beautiful day minus the humidity!!
I have one more detail to share regarding our first annual "Quilts in the Park", thank you to everyone who donated food or money, we gave the Brandon Food Pantry 382.5 #'s of food and also money to purchase some needed items. A BIG thank you from Linda at the food pantry!!! We hung almost 100 quilts, which for our first time we thought was great. I've already booked the park for 2011, so mark your calendars for July 23rd (rain date 7/30) and start making quilts!! Thank you all for the success of the show. We had so many people compliment us and asked us to do it again!
I have a brand new product in the shop that I love! It is called "transfer-eze", it is a 8 1/2"X11" sheet of paper that you can copy your embroidery patterns on with your copier and then it will adhere to your fabric and you can stitch right through it. When your done you just soak in water and it "melts" away. Sometimes you don't want to trace your patterns because of all the details or for the one I'm working on "Baskets of Life" I'm using a dark fabric that would be hard to trace using your light box. Yesterday I copied it, and put it on my fabric and stitched it last night, it is awesome!! It comes by the sheet or the pack and we have both available for sale. I think if you try it you will agree, the best thing since peanut butter and honey. Sure makings transferring the designs alot easier.
We are getting new samples ready for our next vending trips, the Hill City Quilt show is Sept 11 & 12. This is the outdoor quilt show and sale and we were invited to vend there this year. Then two weeks later we will be vending in Longmont, Colorado at the Quilt-a-Fair Sept 24th&25th. I've heard many great things about this show. I can't wait!! If your in the area of either show, hope you'll stop and say "hi".
I'm busy working on the three new classes we'll be starting this fall, Prairie Women's Sewing Circle, which is journey the threads of time by making do with what you have. The next one is "Baskets of Life" a stitchery with baskets, and the other one is "1864" by the Quilted Crow of Australia the quilt is wool applique` and when finished measures 60" square. It is done on cotton and will run for six months.
We are taking sign ups for all three of these monthly gatherings. For the Prairie Women's Sewing Circle we will meet on Thursday's and Saturday mornings starting Sept 30 & Oct 2. Times to be announced later. "1864" will meet October 12th & 16th; and Baskets of Life will meet October 18th. Please let us know which one (or all) that your interested in, they are all six month gatherings. Call for more information!!
I think this wraps it up for this week, stop in soon and see the shop and all the new samples that are up since returning from Knoxville, Joan rearranged it all!!
Blessings,

Good Morning Quilters,
Just a quick note to thank everyone who made our first "Quilts in the Park" a HUGE success!!! We received a "ton" of food for the Brandon Food Bank, thank you so much!!! God answered my prayers for the weather to cooperate, and it was the most perfect day we could of had. I must say it was beautiful with all the quilts displayed among the trees. My great friend Kim took pics and posted them on her blog:
threadheadsunite.blogspot.com so you can check it out and see for yourself. Plans are in the making for our second annual show next year. This wouldn't of been possible with out our customers who provided quilts, thank you so much.
Thank you to my dear friends for all your help in setting up, working the shop, working in the park and tearing down after the show. I couldn't of done it without all your help.
Those who were unable to attend make plans for next year!!
Blessings,

It has finally arrived in the shop, the complete line of Simpler Tymes from Windham Fabrics!! You will not be disappointed, I guarantee this will not stay on the shelf very long. We have already re-ordered some of the pieces.
Just so you don't forget the "Quilts In the Park" quilt show is July 24th from 10-4 in McHardy Park (rain date July 31) right here in Brandon. The park is located south on Splitrock Blvd, then at the "T" in the road you got left down around the hill and turn right onto McHardy Rd and the park is right there. The quilts will be displayed on the clothesline between the shade of the beautiful trees. There are vendors with food, fun antiques, jewerly and more. We are asking that for your admission into the show that you bring two cans of food for the Brandon Food Bank. Go to our website for the forms for pre-registration and quilt registration for the show from our website: www.quiltedmem.com We are inviting all quilters to display quilts from antique quilts to the quilts you have made, from large to small!! We want people to see what you have done!! You can start dropping quilts off at the shop starting July 19th.
I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July, even with the clouds it was a great day!! We had the grandchildren and the great grandparents and we had great grandpa and the little ones turning the crank making homemade ice cream. Of course, Sean couldn't figure out why it took so long, and great grandpa just turned the crank because Sean got "tired"!! What memories, and I have photos to prove it! Brooklyn just took the ice out of the ice cream maker and she was a happy girl enjoying the 4th!
Hope you'll stop in this week, Tuesday evening is our monthly hand embroidery gathering, if your interested in joining us, just call the shop and let us know your attending and we'll have a kit ready for you. We meet from 6-8 pm and do a new project each month. Cost varies, depending on the project. Have a great week.
Blessings,
